Luke Wroblewski recently wrote an interesting and informative article on designing usable data tables. He stresses the importance of adding sort and filter tools, and provides some usefull tips for designing those tools to compliment rather than interfere with the data bieng displayed.
Understanding how to properly design data tables as well as the tools to manipulate their display, is an important part of an interface designer’s toolkit. Further exploration should go into the interaction behaviors of the filtering and sorting tools.
